Risks and Hazards of the Street

Street hazards, rouge cops, and jealous auto enthusiast "wannabes"
make custom auto tuning a risky business!
By Kevin Hertzog, Contributing Editor

When pursuing a project to either raise or lower your vehicle, your going to have to deal with a few of the road hazards going to and from work or to the shows. For instance, the annoying pot holes, drive over one and your taking the serious risk of damaging your custom rims or components under the chassis... or, how about those speed bumps? You flick your switches and presto! instatn clearage... or at least you think.

Ahhh, but pot holes and speed bumps are not the only hazards on the road, for there are also "people hazards"! The police and younger driver's jealous of your ride are such examples of "people hazards". For starters, imagine driving a fully modified Honda rolling down the street with a cool body kit and one hot paint job and being stopped by an officer when your not even blasting your sound system! Some officers I've seen watch driver's of custom rides like hawks sometimes they might even follow you waiting for you to forget to use your blinker or simply go a mile or two over the psoted speed limit. Before you know it, the cop fires up his code lights and then you have to do the "yes sir, no sir" routine until Barney Fife is done with his fun. This is so annoying to custom auto enthusiasts! We simply enjoy driving our custom rides, not receiving a ticket just because the officer spotted you out of the crowd for the appearance of your ride.

Now, with younger driver's out there get greedy to own a hot cusotm ride without putting in all of the work that is involved in building a custom ride. Ahhh, but these will cost you some serious $$$, thus burning a big hole in that fake gucci wallet! So, some young guy gets the idea to "gank" a custom ride unattended. then of course there are those "other people" who enjoy simply destroying art work... the anarchist types. This group would include very jealous girlfriends, wives, enemies, and good ole fashioned road rage seekers. This group of future felons, tend to take matters into their own hands and will key a cool paint job or damage a custom ride with rocks, cinder blocks, paint, etc.

We the enthusiasts, know what we have to deal with in building something that will grab the attention of your friends and car/truck clubs. Don't forget though, that it will also grab the attention of a few Barney Fifes as well as greedy people who want something for nothing! It takes many hours of sweat to build a custom ride and people who prey upon unsuspecting custom automotive enthusiasts need to just GO AWAY! Period!

So, watch your "six" (as the police say) for the ride you save may be your own! Until the next issue... keep on kruisin'!
