The 21st Greater Rochester International Auto Show featured a jam-packed show with over 20 new or totally redesigned models and at least seven sneak previews of 2007 models.
Among the 2007 sneak previews were the Chrysler Aspen, Jeep Compass, Dodge Caliber, Ford Edge, Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500, and the Chevrolet Tahoe. Among those models that have been totally redesigned for 2006 are the Acura TSX, the Honda Civic, Toyota RAV-4, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Sonata, Mazda Miata, Chevrolet Impala, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and VW Passat. In addition there were at least 20 new models introduced at this year's show. To name just a few, the Dodge Charger, Ford Escape Hybrid, BMW 3 series, Mercedes R Class, Saturn Sky, Buick Lucerne, Mitsubishi Raider, Lincoln Zephyr, Infiniti M, and Lexus IS 350 were all on display.
This year's Rochester Show was one of the very few North American Auto Shows selected to exhibit the ultimate concept car, the General Motors Sequel. Racecar legend Andy Santerre appeared on Thursday and Friday. Andy is the four time Busch North Series Champion, 2002-2005. Show visitors were able to meet Andy at the show and get his autograph. His championship racecar was on display throughout the show and there was an additional area devoted to racing that featured cars from the SCCA, a display from Watkins Glen with their pace car, and a racer.
What was certainly a highlight of this year's show was the full display from the Greater Rochester Soap Box Derby, with three Derby championship cars. A different champion was on hand each day of the show to talk with show visitors, especially to those youngsters interested in what it takes to be a competitor in the annual Soap Box Derby.
Visitors also got to meet Van Miller, the long time play-by-play man for the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.Overall, the show had a great turnout and next year will be even better. Until then...
