The infamous Cruisefest Nationals, held every year on Mother's Day weekend, moved further west this year to the Bullitt County Fairgrounds in Sheperdsville, Kentucky. With over 3,000 vehicles showing up to attend last year's festivities, it was a much-needed move. This year, more than 4,000 vehicles rolled through the registration booth, making this one of the largest events in the country.
On Friday, there were about 15 different clubs already on the grounds staking out their spots. The show and events start Friday evening, but that didn't stop the 2,500 vehicles through the gate before Friday afternoon. Unfortunately it rained on Friday and caused the show grounds to become saturated with mud and water, but as they say: "The show must go on!" The next day, Mother Nature let loose a lot of warm sunshine to dry the majority of the show grounds up giving plenty of dry areas for cruising.
The grounds were covered with extraordinary rides ranging from reflector collecting mini-trucks to imports with lambo doors. Vehicles showed up from all across the country, even a Dodge Ram made the drive up from Mexico! Vendors were everywhere you looked. Activities that took place during the show included a bikini show, hydraulics competition, lawn mower races, stero competition, demolition derby, and a burn out competition. Also, spectators had an opportunity to buy tickets for the drawing of a 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo with a set of 22" Lexani wheels on all four corners.
Staying true to its name, Cruisefest, the show featured cruising all day long and into the late evening. Crowds of people wondered around to partake in the Mardi Gras type atmosphere filled with frolicking. Once Sunday rolled around the skies turned dark and the rain began to fall, so ESM did not return, regardless this is one show that is worth attending.
