Heirloom By J.R. Janicek

Tim Christian is the owner of this fine 1967 GMC Truck you see so gracefully filling up this page. As the title states, this truck is an heirloom. See, Tim in his younger years used to mow his Uncle Orbin's lawn. At the age of 14, unfortunately, Tim's Uncle Orbin passed away. It was a tough loss since Tim was very close to his Uncle Orbin, but life does move on.

After the funeral arrangements were made and Uncle Orbin was laid to rest, his estate was to be distributed. Tim was willed Uncle Orbin's pickup with only 22,000 original miles on the odometer. This truck, now a family heirloom, was Tim's first ride and it is therefore a special rig indeed! At first glance it is obvious that Tim has given this truck as much love as he did his dear Uncle Orbin.

As father time moved onward and more disposable income was available, Tim began to convert the truck into the badass teal green GMC you see pictured here. Also, I must mention that Tim is the owner of Christian's Classic Truck Parts, so that allows him to get just about any truck part he needs.

For starters, a ZZ4 350ci Chevy power plant was installed (with a healthy dose of billet bright work I might add) along with a 350 turbo tranny to control the nature of the beast. 2 1/2-inch Street & Performance headers were also installed along with a pair of Flowmaster mufflers to keep the engine chuggin' along with relative ease. Of course all go and no slow isn't a good thing, so Tim updated the front brakes to six-lug disc and the rear to six-lug drums.

The next item on Tim's list was the suspension. Tim is old school so there will be no air bags on any truck he drives and unlike a lot of the younger truck enthusiasts today, Tim prefers a little rake. With that, the suspension consists of 2 1/2-inch drop spindles and 2-inch drop springs in the front. A set of de-arched leaf springs were installed out back which not only drops the rear down five inches, it also gives the truck the perfect hot rod rake. Finishing up the stance, Tim opted to go with 17-inch American Racing Torque Thrust II six-spoke billet wheels with Dunlop rubber providing the traction.

With the engine, drivetrain, wheels, and suspension mods completed, it was time for paint and body. Tim contacted Dewayne Arnold of Dewayne's Body Shop in Rogersville, Tennessee who took on the task of perfecting the truck's exterior skin prior to sending it to the paint booth. Dewayne filled the stake bedrail ends, bed holes, shaved the mirrors, shaved the chains that used to hold the tailgate in place, and much more. Once the bodywork was done, the paint gun was loaded up with PPG Street Silks Hawaiian Teal and then sprayed gracefully upon the detroit metal.

Finishing off this vintage build, Tim went to work on the interior himself. Tim installed power windows, seats, custom cut glass, Autometer gauges, Rod Door panels, custom headliner, tilt steering column, Billet steering wheel, and a Vintage Air system. Tunes are provided by a Custom Auto Sound unit, cranking out 100 watts through Custom Auto Sounds 6x9-inch Stealth speakers. To retain the clean old-school look, Tim hid the head unit in the glovebox, which is operated by remote control.

Tim's GMC is a testament that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. In Tim's case, that light was a final gift... an heirloom, from his dear Uncle Orbin. Yep, you better believe that Uncle Orbin is grinning ear to ear right now!

Shout Out: "Special thanks to Bill Legg and Robbie Seals." -Tim Christian
