The Family Man By J.R. Janicek

There is a definite sense of pride when it comes to family and when you are building a custom hauler as a family project it shows. Calvin Justis knows all about family pride because he is a proud family man. Calvin, with the help of friends and a few local shops, built this 2001 Chevrolet Silverado as a testament to the pride he has in his family. Afterall, if Calvin's family was going to be seen rolling through town, it might as well be in a snazzy hauler instead of a boring mini-van.

Under the truck, the job at hand called for a reduction in ride height with adjustability. A complete air bag suspension system was laid across the floor and, one piece at a time, installed in place of the factory equipment that was being removed. Up front 2600lb Conitech bags with custom control arms and shock mounts were installed in place of the stock coils. Instead of leaf springs out back, Calvin and his friend, Stacy Lee, installed an Extensive Metal Works frame kit with two-link and 2600lb Conitech air bags. A Chassis Tech 8-gallon air tank, Viair 550 compressor, and an assortment of 1/2-inch valves and air lines supply air to the system. Calvin controls the whole system in-cab utilizing a Dakota Digital gauge. 20-inch Mazzi Sphink wheels covered in 255/35R20 Kuhmo Ecsta complete the rolling hardware.

With the rolling truck ready for some exterior modifications, Stacy Lee was called back into duty. Stacy immediately went to work by shaving the taillights, stake pocket holes, door handles, and tailgate handle. A Grant Customs California combo skin was installed in place of the stock bumper and tailgate with LED taillights. On the nose, the stock bumper was replaced with a one piece Chassis Tech chrome bumper with billet insert. The rest of the nose was cleaned up with billet grille inserts and clear corner lenses.

Ready for color, Calvin tossed the keys to Gary's Paint and Body in Greenville, Tennessee where the truck received a three color paint job. The top portion of the truck received Corvette black and the bottom half of the truck received Chevy pewter. A wide Nissan emerald green stripe was also added that divides up the two colors perfectly.

With the exterior handled, Calvin turned his attention to the interior. Hal and Suzy's Upholstery out of Mosheim, Tennessee, handled all the stitchwork of the pewter and black leather gracing the inside of the Chevy. Hal and Suzy's talents can be seen on the flamed headliner, posts, seats, door panels, and the custom center console fabricated by Calvin. Customizing even further, Calvin smoothed and painted the dash.

The truck was then dropped off at North Main Audio in Greenville, Tennessee where a Premiere Pioneer head unit was installed along with Pioneer 3-way speakers in all of the doors. 7.5" Microvision video screens were installed in each sun visor and a Microvision DVD player was installed in the center console.

The 4.3 liter V-6 engine is mild. um, untouched. OK, fine - it is stock. But, Calvin did install a MAC polished intake with a custom filter, and painted a few pieces for esthetic appeal. Besides, nobody cares what the engine looks like when you are rolling through town in a cool looking truck!

See when it comes to family and most certainly his truck you better believe a family man like Calvin is gonna pull out all the stops. He is truly a family man... with a family plan!

Shout Out: "My wife, Tyger, is the model featured and my son Corey. This was a family project and I'm glad I get to share this truck with them. I love my wife and son very much and I'm glad I have a wife beautiful enough to shoot with my truck because I wouldn't want anyone else to do it." -Calvin Justis
