It's always exciting to attend a Goodguys event, and the 1st Nostalgia Nationals held in Bowling Green, Kentucky, at Beech Bend Raceway Park did not disappoint!
If there were ever any fears about attendance, they were squelched, with the grounds filling fast on Friday morning, under clear fall skies, despite rain the previous evening. The usual Goodguys pre-1972 show format ensured a mixture of street rods, classics, & muscle cars, but the added feature of nostalgia-themed drag cars out on the strip made the event totally awesome and... well, nostalgic!
With a photographer's track pass, ESM was allowed to get amazingly clsoe to the drag racers and therefore all the action that goes along with it! However, if you were a spectator sitting in the roof-equipped bleachers, they hug the sides of the track which makes the overall experience up close and personal for both photographers and spectators alike. It's a great old track-a step back in time that an old school drag racing enthusiast can really appreciate.
It's difficult to gauge the success of a new event as there's nothing to compare it to, but given the decline in attendance at many events during late 2008, and the number of cars in attendance on Saturday (2,000+), ESM has decided to call this Goodguys event a success.
