Daily Roller-A Family Project By J.R. Janicek

If you think about it, the custom truck hobby is really worth its weight in gold. Going to shows talking about how you built your ride, picking up ideas about modifications, and hanging out with friends and making new ones along the way are just a few of the fringe benefits. However, when a truck build offers the chance for family members to spend more time with one another, it makes the hobby priceless due to the memories that will carry forward for many years and generations to come. David Moore III, of Rockport, Kentucky, was able to share such an experience with his dad, David Moore II.

Before the father and son duo kicked off the build, they both agreed the truck should be a looker, but it also needed to be functional for daily use. Considering this, they decided a full air suspension would be fine, but a body drop was a no go. The dynamic suspension consists of a C notched frame and dropped I-beams with Airlift and Slam Specialists bags over the axles.

Once David's Ranger was ground level, some radical exterior mods were performed. The body was shaved of everything which includes the door handles, antenna, 3rd brake light, emblems, and taillights. The doors were refitted to open suicide style and Street Scene sport mirrors were bolted into place. A Stylin Concepts fiberglass ram air hood, mesh racing grille insert, custom air dam, and clear lights finish off the this blue oval's nose. Caddy taillights were grafted into the rear along with a full California skin combo with a frenched center mounted license plate. A hard tonneau bed topper covers the tubbed out and carpeted bed. Finishing off the exterior modifications, David and his dad laid down a blue paint job dressed with sliver flames. The flames were outlined with yellow pinstriping by their friend "Huz."

Complementing the exterior modifications are 17-inch American Racing Revolver wheels with Raptor Radial tires.

Inside the cab, David wanted it plenty loud. The Panasonic CD headunit sends its signal to a Rockford Fosgate amplifier. Sound comes from a pair of 10-inch Audiobahn subs in a custom center console sub enclosure and Alpine and Sony 6x9-inch speakers positioned around the cab. All audio equipment was installed by Victor's Stereo of Central City, Kentucky.

Martin's Upholstery of Owensboro, Kentucky, performed the stitch work inside the cab, which consists of a mixture of blue and gray tweed. David and his dad added plenty of painted-to-match fiberglass to the dash and door panels. The father and son duo also installed whiteface gauges and a brushed aluminum insert in the dash. A billet rearview mirror was mounted on the glass and a NRC billet tribal steering wheel tops off the steering column.

The engine received a cold air intake and a 100 amp alternator for additional power. The engine, as well as the compartment itself, was painted black and blue. The Alliance battery was relocated in the bed and a custom exhaust flows through a set of Flowmaster mufflers.

In the end, this project was all about spending time with family while also producing a reliable daily roller that could also pull a little part-time show duty on weekends.
