Welcome to ESM's online resource for internal and freelance photographers. This page provides information covering submission guidelines, image and file specifications, and media forms. We have striven to develop the best practices that are in-line with industry standards. Utilization and adherence to the general guidelines presented on this site will provide the best opportunity for quality reproduction. If you have questions, please contact us. (NOTE: You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to enable viewing and printing of Elite Streets Magazine forms which can be downloaded by clicking here. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, you can install it FREE from: www.adobe.com)
Follow the guidelines below for image submissions. Freelance photographers should contact the magazine editor for any subsequent requirements. ESM highly recommends that images be submitted in their original state without subsequent changes made for color or contrast. ESM shall perform all color editing tasks and reserves the right to not accept images previously edited.
General Guidelines
- Images should not be manipulated in any way prior to submission. Do not add sharpness, saturation, or contrast in-camera except when shooting/submitting Raw files (digital cameras). Do not edit size, color, sharpness, saturation, etc. in Photoshop. ESM will make these manipulations as necessary.
- Images may be submitted in JPG, Camera RAW, and DNG format.
- Filename extensions (JPG, DNG, etc.) must remain intact.
Freelance Guidelines
- Inclusion of copyright information and contact details is required.
- Images should be submitted as RGB even if you have already modified the image color.
Basic Image Quality Guidelines
- Expose well in-camera. A better exposure creates a better file.
- Shoot at lower ISO's as much as possible.
- Replicate a studio environment as much as possible (where applicable).
- Use a tripod and cable shutter release whenever practical.
- Subject should be photographed alone, with non-subject areas as clear and uncluttered as possible.
- Subject should be well-lit and properly exposed for brightness and good contrast.
- Subject and background should contrast. (i.e.- Light subject/dark background or dark subject/light background.)
ESM does not process manual film, nor do we accept printed photographs that need to be scanned to be used. It is too time consuming to prepare film and/or printed photos for Internet use, so we only accept pictures in a digital format. We recommend storing photos on a CD or DVD.

Bert P. Krages, an attorney in Portland, Oregon, and author of the Legal Handbook for Photographers, has a short, but excellent article called The Photographer's Right. The Photographer's Right is a downloadable guide that is loosely based on the Bust Card and the Know Your Rights pamphlet that used to be available on the ACLU website. It may be downloaded and printed out using Adobe Acrobat Reader. You may make copies and carry them in your wallet, pocket, or camera bag to give you quick access to your rights and obligations concerning confrontations over photography. You may distribute the guide to others, provided that such distribution is not done for commercial gain and credit is given to the author, Bert P. Krages, Esq.
